In 1920, three friends spoke of organizing a chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) in Bakersfield. Their reality came on April 26, 1921, when Bakersfield Chapter NSDAR was officially organized with 14 charter members. On October 7, 1995, Bakersfield Chapter merged with the Grapevine Canyon Chapter. Regular meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month in members’ homes with two luncheon meetings on the first Saturday in May and December to accommodate working members.
We welcome any woman for membership who is over 18 years of age and who is descended from a man or woman who aided in achieving American Independence during the period between April 19, 1775 and November 26, 1783.
Bakersfield Chapter supports and participates in projects for active American military and our veterans of all wars; reforestation and other “green” projects; Native American schools; Neonatal ICU’s in Bakersfield.
Bakersfield Chapter meets the first Tuesday of the month. No meetings are scheduled in June, July or August. Prospective members are welcome and encouraged to attend meetings. If you are interested in attending a chapter meeting, please email the Chapter Regent for meeting time and location. Or you may contact either the Chapter Registrar or Membership Chairman regarding eligibility and/or help with your application process.
Bakersfield Chapter recognizes and honors participants in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Good Citizens Contest, awards Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) bronze medals to cadets from five local high school ROTC groups, and presents winners of the American History Essay contest in grades 5, 6, 7, and 8 with certificates. These special ceremonies are attended by members of the chapter, parents, students, and school personnel.
Bakersfield Chapter supports the DAR Schools with donations of thrift items, Campbell's product labels, Box Tops for Education and monetary donations. We have members active at the district and state levels. We are consistently an award-winning chapter.
